The MArkha Valley trek is one of the most popular and beautiful treks in Ladakh. The Himalayas become an important part of this trek and has to cross two high passes both above 15000ft. Go down into narrow valleys. Cross the Indus river and the Markha river in several points. This trek also allows us to visit a few ancient monasteries enroute and encounter the harmless Himalayan wildlife too. This 7/8 days trek end at the village of Hemis.
Day 01 : Zinchen to Ganda-la base camp : 6 hours
A slightly tougher trek. This is enterence to the HEMIS national park. River crossing two times before RUMBAK Sumdo. Enroute cross YURUTSE VILLAGE and have lunch. Before reaching the Ganda-La base of a lot of wildlife, mainly Marmots can be seen. Camp at the base of Ganda-La,( 4000m). Amazing views of the Stok Kangri north face.
Day 02 : Ganda-La base to Skiu : (06 hr)
A tiresome walk till GANDA-LA pass top (4900m) and then a long and easy descent towards Shingo village. Stop at SHINGO for lunch. A long walk with water crossing at several points before SKIU village. Camp at the beautiful camping site of Skiu ( Alt. 3200m).
Day 03 : Skiu to Markha : ( 08 hrs)
Quite an easy walk today mostly through flat land. River crossing at a few places. Camp at MARKHA on the bank of Markha river. Markha village is the biggest village on this route. ( Alt. 3500m).
Day 04 : Markha to thechungtse : ( 06 hrs)
Visit Markha monastery in the morning, cross the green field of Markha village and keep walking. Pass Hankar village enroute and after a slight uphill walk camp at Thechungtse. ( Alt 4000m).
Day 05 : Thochangtse to Nimaling : (4 hrs)
Trek through valley in direction of the Zalhung karpo and the Rupshu. We go through tarn, pasture and start our gradual ascent towards the wonderful high valley of Ladakh in Nimaling. Camp.
Day 6 : Nimaling to Kongmuru-La to Shang-Sumdo (4000m) in 8 hrs
Climb to the summer pasture of Nimaling, used by the shepherds Hankar and Markha, then follow the hedge to the top. The Kongmuru-La pass above 5000m commands a beautiful view of the Kangyetse north face (6400m), the Ladakh ranges and the Indus valley. Camp in Chogdo or Shang-Sumdo
Day 7 : Shang-Sumdo to Martselang ( 2 hours), walk.
Then our taxi will be ready for you to pack you up. On the way visit Hemis monastery, the biggest most important monastery in Ladakh.
